Western Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education

With agriculture being Hawaii's second largest commodity, the state is pushing to increase its tropical fruit production to become less reliant on importing tropical fruits. Umi Martin, a Kaua`i farmer, is trying different techniques such as the Ultra High Density technique to increase mango orchard yields on smaller acreages through a Western SARE grant.

The Mango Loa Project

Watch as Umi demonstrates these new techniques, aiming to revitalize the local economy by reducing labor needs, boosting yields, and selling directly to the local market.
