LD's Latest: New Projects Live

See what we’re creating with Kiss The Ground, Rocky Mountain Farmers Union, Western SARE, and Holistic Management International.

Rocky Mountain Farmers Union

GRASSROOTS IN ACTION

In our recent video with Rocky Mountain Farmers Union (RMFU), a vital grassroots organization supporting family farms and rural communities across New Mexico, Colorado, and Wyoming, we showcase RMFU’s ability to connect communities, advance member-driven ideas into local and federal policy, and provide farmer-focused programs and educational opportunities.

From everyday consumers to multi-generation cattle ranches and large-scale commodity farmers, RMFU empowers its members to become strong voices for production agriculture by providing them with essential resources.

Watch the video to see how RMFU is making an impact.

Western SARE

SUGAR BEET FARMERS

Across the Western U.S., the Western Sugar Cooperative is proving that less is more when it comes to nitrogen application and sugar beet quality.

Historically, fertilizer models focused primarily on maximizing total sugar beet tonnage. However, because the farmers are paid based on sugar content rather than total beet weight, excess nitrogen can actually reduce sugar concentration and ultimately lower their bottom line.

While initial small-scale tests were promising, a Western SARE Professional + Producer grant allowed the Cooperative to prove these results work at scale on commercial acreage.

HMI REELS

Watch for our latest reels with Holistic Management International, where land stewards share firsthand experiences of how Holistic Management® has transformed not only their operations, but their communities and relationships as well.

This reel series features certified educators and both beginning and lifelong ranchers with a deep connection to the land. Keep an eye on their socials for more of these to drop, you won’t want to miss the knowledge they each have to share.

Western SARE

REDUCING WATER FOOTPRINT IN UTAH AND IDAHO

Farmers in Utah and Idaho are facing an urgent challenge: grow more food with fewer water resources. In regions like Utah’s Cedar Valley, groundwater over-pumping reaches billions of gallons annually, creating an immediate need for research to develop long-term conservation strategies that keep agricultural businesses viable.

With the support of Western SARE, teams from Utah State University, Brigham Young University, and Southern Utah University are working directly with farmers on a multi-year research project to identify ideal irrigation management techniques, with the hope that these practices will “stack” to maximize every drop.
